It has become a disease on SI in the last 5 years. Pick almost any thread, even GWB, and contrast now and say, 1998. Usually there's a tremendous change. I was curious recently and went hunting for my posts from the 2000 election. Because I choose not to pay for search privileges, I was largely unsuccessful. Many uncivil posts showed up from both sides. When I joined SI, it was largely discussions about stocks and the big boards I noticed were tech sector stocks. Now SI has devolved into a political bicker fest. There were plenty of heated discussion even then. Do you remember when this was a banned person's alternate identity? Member 3656246 He is one of the most highly people marked people on SI in is his once banned identity.
