WTF are YOU talking about? If the US had declined to fight WWII, or if the US had simply bugged out of Europe after WWII and left the whole thing as a goodbye present to Joe Stalin, what do you think the government in Russian, Spain or Portugal would be like today?

This is silly. If Stalin ran all of europe because we withdrew from the fray in the name of america first, non entaglement, etc. the Soviet system still may have broken down at some point but think of the horror for the folks on the other side of the iron curtain when they found themselves locked in by you and your soft power advocacy. Much of europe was kept free by our actions and what stopped the soviets was deterrence and the threat of hard power. Otherwise soviet armies could have rolled over Western Europe. You should think before you speak. You can still criticize the current admin in iraq for either taking unilateralism too far, or fighting the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time but this is not at all a question that justifies soft power in prior times. mike
