Sony does have brand recognition. Unfortunately that recognition is of a company whose recent products have not met up with the quality of its historical excellence.

Sony has clearly been resting on its laurels while the rest of its competition moves on to the future. Sort of like what Microsoft is doing today.

Sony is in a recovery mode and I think they can regain a lot of respect - however they messed-up their Walkman advantage and will not likely ever win it back (unless Apple decides to rest).

What Sony must do is to find a way to innovate in the home entertainment market. It is time for TVs, radios, satellite, cable, and the phone systems to intercommunicate. Sony should work in this area.
