I don't expect many of the grunts to care what Gonzalez says, but they do care when a directive comes down that says, "don't do this or you will get your ass in a wringer." Obviously, at best, the administration and military officials were guilty of "nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean." And the intelligence officers on the scene should definitely be held responsible. Or at least mentioned in the Admiral's report.

I worked in Army Intelligence (an oxymoron if there ever was one) back in the sixties and soldiers were told to ignore us and tell nobody they'd seen us. Which was stupid, because most of the time we weren't doing diddly. <G> There were incidents that weren't expected, but none of us were ever mentioned in the press or in the published incident reports. So, outside of Bob Novak, that tradition seems to continue.
