He may be an idiot, but all the analysts were in an surly mood on the call. There were questions about double-ordering (they can't say for sure but don't think so). Some of this quarter's strength had to do with the extra week (is that a surprise?--don't analysts have calendars?). Q1 will not be the low point for '05 margins, as they will likely drop in Q2 before rebounding in the second half to reach an annual average of 58%.

Out of five concrete data points this week, all but TXN's guidance have been positive, yet it doesn't seem to matter. {

Sarmad, It is rather frustrating to have "entities", like CSFB and several other like-minded firms, constantly putting forth a lot of "doom and gloom" for the semi and semi-equip industry. It has really had a depressing effect on stock prices in those industries for a long, long time.

As reported previously on this thread, the Elec-Semiconductor Equip Group of 65 stocks, as tallied by IBD, wound up in 197th place out of 197 segments in 2004.

These entities haven't given up - they are just digging in their heels more and more. Now CSFB is expecting a "down year" for both 2005, and 2006 as reported just the other day.

Message 21116106

Let me repeat CSFB's outlook for 05 and 06 as reported in that post - it is really, really negative.

<<"We continue to anticipate a second leg of a downturn leading to a disappointing finish to 2005 and another year of down capital expenditures in 2006.>>

For anyone believing that scenario, it would be a good idea to "dump the semi/semi-equips for at least a couple of years - "dead money" to say the least.
