Here is a Feb 3, 2005 news release. Note that exactly one month later (last week) the top bonus has been increased again to $45,000. The second move seemed like a panic reaction to me..until I dug deeper and discovered the problem is worse than is being stated.U.S. Army increases bonuses for high-priority jobs FORT KNOX, Ky. – The U.S. Army Recruiting Command today announced the increase of its bonuses for high-priority military occupational specialties (MOS) and a new maximum bonus of $17,000 for three-year active Army enlistments. The maximum combination of cash bonuses for an active Army enlistment of four or more years is $20,000. Qualified applicants who select a high-priority MOS and enlist in the active Army for three or more years are now eligible for a seasonal bonus of up to $10,000. The Army has expanded the eligibility criteria for the $10,000 seasonal bonus and also opened it up to applicants with previous military service. In addition, active Army recruits may be qualified for other cash enlistment incentives based on their education levels. Applicants with bachelors’ degrees can earn $8,000 for enlisting for two or more years. Associate or two-year degree holders can earn $7,000. Qualified high school graduates with 60 or more college semester hours can qualify for a $6,000 bonus, and those with 30 to 59 college semester hours can earn $3,000 for joining the U. S. Army. The maximum for a three-year enlistment is now $17,000 for some high-priority jobs, and $10,000 for most of the Army’s more than 150 entry-level jobs. These cash enlistment incentives may also be combined with either the Army’s Loan Repayment Program or the Army College Fund, but not both. The Loan Repayment Program can repay up to $65,000 in qualifying student loans, and the Army College Fund offers up to $70,000 for higher education.
