The anesthesia bill is quite reasonable by comparison to the $13,420 hospital bill for the three hour stay.

The anesthesiologist charged a mere $680 with Blue Cross dictating a $300 discount for a total payment of only $280. You'd have to be quite mean to complain about that, even if you were paying the full cash price.

The hospital bill is just abusively high for those without an insurance discount. Its like those grocery stores which provide additional discounts on their already imaginary prices if you bother to pick up one of their free discount cards. The list price simply bears no relationship to reality.

Since well known hospitals like this received a number of foreign patients, I wonder if this is not an attempt to round out their budget with money from wealthy patients from other nations - who are hardly in a position to complain.
