Anyway, I looked it up.

According to Business Week, Sony ranks 20th in terms of "brand value" on the list of most valuable brand names, while Apple is 43rd. Business Week's rankings are based on an evaluation of a brand's economic worth, using methodology developed by Interbrand.

So on that basis, you are correct, and Sony's brand is more "powerful" than Apple's.

FYI, I do still stand by my original point, which is that the work of establishing a brand identity for iPod has already been done, and that Apple has a huge lead over Sony in that regard.
