"...infatuated with communism into those that were naive" No doubt many old communists were naive about the nature of totalitarian communism and Uncle Joe Stalin as he was affectionately called in those post-WW2 days. There was one hell of alot "holocaust" denial going on regarding Soviet and Chinese atrocities in those days. Joe McCarthy way overstepped but there were some dangerous folks out there--some well meaning dupes but others with a more sinister agenda (making use of the well meaning dupes in order to aid the enemy (US)) at this beginning of the Cold War.
