Yes, I get what he is doing. They are spending money like mad. But you are acting as if this is a new thing. I grew up with jokes about how the government buys $20,000 toilets and $1,000 screws. Gov't mismanagement of money is not new news. That is why I believe in a world of low taxes and low government spending.

However, in the specific case you cited, the reality is that no soldier is going to burn a Hum-V to the ground, if all he needs to do is a change a tire, policy or not. Now, if they are under enemy fire and in imminent danger, then it makes a hell of a lot of sense to destroy the vehicle. And that's what they do. That's not government waste. That's smart warfare.

If you want to point to Bush crony waste, there are better examples, such as the complete lack of an auditable trail of money flows through the C.P.A. Or the overcharging by companies related to Cheney or other Bush pals. That's the true crime.
