yes, I know. Ataturk really did ram through secularism brutally. It's what move them to Democracy. At the end of the day, though, the people can do the same thing, if they have the will.

Do you know why Turkey has a democracy? If it hadn't of been for Kemal Ataturk, Turkey would likely be some nasty little dictatorship. It is rare for a dictator, which he essentially was, to ramrod the changes needed to lead his country to democracy. There wasn't a spontaneous uprising of the Turkish people to throw out the Caliphate and hold elections.


There is another reason. Ataturk was a Turk, not an Arab or a Persian. Their culture is different and approaches Islam in a more secular manner.
