< the way life on earth originated>

It is as it is and did evolve. We are condemned to where biology was before DNA. Before DNA, biology was about cataloging all the facets of life in all its forms. DNA allowed a generalization about life and explained why a shrew could change into a bat. For determining "life" we probably need to open up the definition to things not just made of carbon. What about tornados? They are born, live and die. They eat warm wet air and exhale dry cold air. Sometimes they bear children. Life may just be an instance of emergence. Sometimes things like sunspots, tornados, whirlpools, and yes, even the reviled computer simulation and other persistent phenomena just rise up out of the stew, given time. Why? We don't get to know. Probably.
