getting the car smogged is a pain in the butt,
but is not "bad"

What is "getting the car smogged"?

of course context is everything...

we were discussing dogs

not emission tests for our cars

or international flights

of heightened security

or dental appts. for that matter

normal people would consider calling a particular breed a 'pain in the butt'

a bad characterization...

as opposed to a good characterization

hence a 'pain in the butt' thing, one (at least a normal person!) concludes a bad thing (WRT dogs, of course!)

dog ownership is purely elective

ergo,

it would seem normal that a person would not consider 'pain in the butt' dogs a good thing...

(as i said, unless you of course are masochistic, then i guess it could be a very good thing! do recall i made that exemption!)
