<<Mrs. Ork says I've been wrong for the last five years...the way things have turned out, we should have kept her house and sold the condo.>>

Welcome to the pitfalls of trying to time either the housing market or the stock market. It's pretty tough either way. <<gg>>

Are you the same person to posted this in reply to one of my posts just a little while ago?

Out of curiosity, where is the wee Ork in question located? I think some areas are a lot safer than others...

I really hate the "you've been wrong for 5 years" style of argument... it's illogical at least two levels:

1. First of all, the usual form is "they've been saying there's a real estate bubble for years." I don't know who "they" is... but what "they" said 5 years ago is not remotely germaine to what I am saying now!

2. I'm not sure exactly what you've said, but for a couple years I've been saying "our city is in a real estate bubble that will burst in the future." Just because it hasn't happened yet does not make me wrong... as a matter of fact, it's just made me more right, as the longer this goes on, the more likely there is to be a serious downward correction.

I feel your pain, buddy.

Moral hazard....sorry guy<NG>

<<Mrs. Ork says I've been wrong for the last five years>>

I'd remind her (gently<G>) that past performance is no guarantee of future returns, and to check back with you in another 5 years.

Hi Mr. Ork, RE: "I convinced her to sell her house and move into my condo, which is smaller. I promised her when the bubble burst we'd buy a nicer house than she had. The way things have turned out, we should have kept her house and sold the condo. Mrs. Ork says I've been wrong for the last five years."

Ouch. Your situation sounds painful for you and Mrs. Ork, so if it's any help, here's a woman's perspective: hugs fix nearly anything. It's amazing how a guy can be forgiven for lots when he gives a hug. Of course, women have 'excellent' memories so don't be surprised if the topic comes up weekly. Treat it as an opportunity.

Sound logic won't help this. This is too deep of a problem - Greenspan is in over his head.

The loose lending standards have created this mess.

Regards,
Amy J
