Well, you are talking to a guy who got a short haircut back in the days when long and bearded was the rule.

I do feel that the nobility of a person determines the upper regions of rights and responsibilities, and the benefits thereof. In other words, there is no glass ceiling, but there is a dirt floor. Scumbags can fall to the dirt floor, but no further. Cuff 'em. Read 'em their rights. Give 'em a fair trial. Promptly carry out the sentence. Limit appeals to a reasonable time--say within a year of conviction. It's cruel and unusual to execute people after letting them live on death row for fifteen years. They shouldn't have to wait that long.

This guy Nicholls in Atlanta: People are so concerned that juries derive no inference on guilt when they see an accused in irons that the irons are removed. Then the guy gets a gun and kills four people. This problem is easily solved. Cuff every accused without exception. Then they all look the same to the jury. An alternative would be to have all defendants sit in a lock box, or appear on a television monitor instead of in person.
