Education is the only reliable way to solve poverty. Sad as it is, after a certain point there's not much you can do. Over a period of around 20 years I attempted to help 3 different people, all of whom stayed in my home for approximately 6 months each. With #1 we were actually able to help the guy and he managed to get his life together and we are still friends. With #2 the effort was completely wasted and he ended up in prison for credit card abuse. When he got out he came by and I sent him on his way. With #3 we did manage to get the guy his driver's licence back, but not much else. He returned months later to ask if he could mow my yard. I said okay and paid him in advance so as to be able to get gas and he never returned. I don't regret trying to help any of them, but at some point people have to take responsibility and if they can't, there's nothing you can do short of supporting them. * * *
