David, Rather didn't "make a mistake".

He made the same mistake Clinton made ... getting caught. ;-)

Oh, bullcrap. This incident had nothing to do with a "free press". It is no different than what has been done with 1000 other initiatives over the years, from drug education to attempts to inform the public about services available to them.

No, you are right, nothing "free press" about them.

Sadly, in your eyes these incidents are foregivable. Not surprising. Would it be because conservatives are involved? Would you find me another example in the past where a member of the press has been paid money by political figures to go trumpet the party line under guise of editorial freedom? Or one where a member of a conservative, virtually unknown media outlet, who turns out to be operating under an assumed name and happens to have been a gay escort prostitute of some such thing, has been given access to the white house press room...and also happens to have the gift of lobbing lollipop questions to the man at the podium.

How low we have come when we have to set up the press and audience for a president of the most powerful nation on earth. This man claims integrity for himself?
