The safety net is the most important, however my daughter will receive a minor's death benefit from her mother's contributions and she is entitled to it.

SS survivor benefits helped my mother raise my little sister after my father died at a young age. Later, it helped her retire with dignity. It's a worthwhile program, one of the best and most "Christian" uses of our taxes. I'd rather lose the whole Defense Department if the government is a little short.
