I just had this conversation with three other people roughly my age, including my girlfriend. They all agreed with me that the problem is not that the kids are having sex, but that no one's taught them how to do it in a responsible manner.

That's one problem, and the other perhaps even more problematic issue is that it is societally unacceptable. Two young people when asked what they did in the afternoon can tell their parents they played tennis together, but tell their parents (and the surrounding general public) that they had sex and the shit hits the fan. It's both a matter of physical health (your point) and societal acceptance (a cultural thing).
