I am glad your Golden has not had any more seizures since that terrifying event, and I truly do know just how terrifying it can be... When Sparky had his first seizure laying down by the main bedroom door, it was panic city! All of a sudden like a bolt out of the blue, the bedroom door starts banging against the wall over and over, bang, bang, BANG, and I run to see him having what I first thought was a heart attack as he was almost ready to fall down the stairs while unconscious... Since he weighed over 100 pounds, it was quite a task for me to prevent him from tumbling all the way down the stairs... After the first incident, he had about 50 or 60 more seizures, sometimes multiple seizures, before we had to put him to sleep because he became paralyzed from the neck down. It was so sad visiting him in the hospital, as he cried his eyes out upon recognizing us, begging to go home... After a week like that with no hope in sight, we made the decision to put the poor boy to sleep. He was the greatest, and it took me over a year to even begin to get over it... The Phenobarbital helped after the right dosage level was found, but it never completely eliminated the seizures, and he almost always looked stoned. <g> I believe there are many natural treatments that work for both humans and animals, so I'm open to finding new ways and methods just in case we are ever confronted with seizures again from any of our dogs.
