"Buddy, SURELY you didnt want Bush to SHUT DOWN THE GOVT right in the middle of a potential serious recession?"

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Answers:

1) Why the Hell not? The government is not critical (at least in short-run) to the economy.

2) The last recession was one of the MILDEST and SHORTEST on record!

3) Who the Hell says that the Republican Congress would 'shut down the government' if Bush ever worked up the guts to veto a too-big spending bill?????????

They are of his own Party, remember? (They wouldn't want to be seen as acting out of SPITE, or against the best interests of America.)

They would likely just immediately sent new spending bills to Bush --- with lower outlays in them --- for his signature, or else they would rush through 'CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS' as they have so many times in the past, that would just extend the outlays (always LOWER) from the past year into the new year.

What's the big deal? Don't act like if Bush worked up the guts to take a stand for lower government spending that the SKY WOULD FALL, or the country come apart at the seams... IT WOULD BE A VERY POSITIVE THING!!!!!!!
