Maybe, maybe not.

But since ALL our big energy industries receive HUGE subsidies (in the tax codes, special taxpayer-financed insurance provisions, R&D paid by the taxpayers, and just generally pork all around) it's hard to state exactly *what technologies* business would choose to finance in a truly free market, not distorted by all the government pork.
