Karen, if you google "intelligent design", you get a pretty clear roundup on the first three hits, intelligentdesignnetwork.org , /http://www.actionbioscience.org/evolution/nhmag.html , and intelligentdesignnetwork.org . The first one looks like a semi-official promotional site, which concludes with the grand statement" Intelligent Design is an intellectual movement that includes a scientific research program for investigating intelligent causes and that challenges naturalistic explanations of origins which currently drive science education and research.

Except that they don't give any pointers on the alleged "scientific research program" . Sure looks like a political program to me, or more properly another front on the culture wars, but see also actionbioscience.org from the second link. The third link does a job on the "intellecutal movement" part too, which seems to trace back to misinterpretaion of Aristotle or something.

Not that it matters that much, it takes a lot of motivation to become a working scientist, and anybody taken in by "intelligent design" is not exactly going to leave much of a mark there. It's a little irritating, but there are more irritating things in the realm of official conservative dogma on science.
