I agree completely with everything you said. The "Bread and Butter" cars, like the Lumina and Malibu, make no profit for GM. That's not saying they aren't good cars. We have one of each and are very happy with them as they are extremely reliable (one lightning strike induced breakdown in over 200K combined miles). The trucks and SUV's are where the big profit is for vehicle sales. FWIW Ford announced last week they are terminating the production line for the Thunderbird.
