The issue at hand is global warming. It doesn't mean local or regional pollution are unimportant issues, but comments about them are at most peripherally relevant to global warming.

Methane is a very strong greenhouse gas. Methane does just as much global warming damage when it is emitted in rural areas as it does when it is emitted in the middle of a city. If you believe global warming is a severe problem than it makes a lot of sense to try and reduce methane emissions.
