yeah, they found in crohn's disease that if you give granulocyte stimulating factor...you get remission. they were suprised as they thought crohn's required immunosuppressants. But the point is, one arm of the immmune system isn't functioning so well and the other part is over-alarmed.

Its most likely that most inflammatory bowel disease is related to infection, or else maybe celiac (gluten intolerance). The theory is that your particular body cannot totally clear an infection and at the same time, given moleculary mimicry with your particular genetics, low levels of the infection create chronic inflammation, a chronic elevated immune response.

You might get your gut flora cultured and see if anything is out of balance. Just like h pylori is linked to ulcers (as mentioned on this thread), it might be that proper antibiotics or antifungals might be able to clear something that was literally 'bugging' you :).
