My daughter moved out, but now she has moved back in! Her apartment didn't allow pets, which was actually a relief because all the three dogs are really bonded together, and I thought it would be miserable for Lily to be by herself most of the time while my daughter went to school and worked. I thought all the dogs would have been very sad. And my daughter's roommate was not trustworthy as far as making sure she didn't run outside and get lost.

It sounds like your daughter is more of a cat person like her mother. I was a cat person until I got dogs, and then my whole viewpoint changed really fast. Now I am trying to make up for lost time!
