One of the interesting things about this case is that both sides believe they are acting in her best interests and the best interests of society, in general. Both sides really believe they are on the high road. For some the high road is life over death, period. For others the high road is respect for the wishes of the individual, regardless of what they may be. When the wishes of the individual aren't clear, people impute their own wishes for those circumstances as though their own wishes were universal.
