Somewhere around 30 States have some kind of Net Metering law on the books (usually limited to a token 1% or .5% of the total electric market :)

Net Metering requires that your power grid operator put in a two-way electric meter when you request it... and then BUY back from you (at wholesale rates) any surplus electricity you generate.

The big operators have been stalling these kind of laws for *years* from coming out of the Public Utilities Commissions or the State Legislatures... even though they are the most sensible thing in the world for increasing energy production and reliability (many thousands of small producers are unlikely to all go down at the same time like a big producer might), and promoting national energy independence for America.
