I would tell you that no matter what you did (unless you killed her for her money or something) that you did the "right" thing. Because in these situations I do not think you can know what is "right". You do your best- and our best, and what we consider our best, will be different for different families. I think the law promotes a generalized notion of what is "right" (maybe)- but it is not exact, and generalized notions do not, imo, make moral codes. The morality of each person reading this board is slightly different, just as we are all slightly different, and that morality changes as we live, and it may even change situationally (and in fact probably will change situationally) and there is nothing "wrong" with that- it merely illustrates (imo) how hard it is to articulate concrete notions of right and wrong in the complex areas of our lives.
