There's an interesting book called BLINK which discusses the inability of the untrained (this time cops shooting an unarmed guy in front of his house) to react appropriately during times of stress. That particular incident took about 7 seconds and was full of mistaken perceptions and inappropriate actions. The poor guy ended up with some 40 bullets in him if I remember correctly.

I imagine that this kind of thing is going on in Iraq all day every day. The stress is absurd, the lack of training and equipment criminal and there's no end in sight.

Heck, the military has resorted to calling up WWII veterans to see if they'd like to go to Iraq to fight for George.

Strongest military ever? It's absurd.
