They had better watch it he says, if they try to get involved in politics. They have no right to such activities according to him. news.scotsman.com <SINN Fein’s Martin McGuinness last night warned the family of the IRA murder victim, Robert McCartney, to stay out of party politics. With one of his sisters threatening an electoral challenge to the party, Sinn Fein’s chief negotiator claimed that the campaign to bring the killers to justice could be left open to political manipulation. His warning came as Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams braced himself for a fierce US backlash over the murder. To compound the crisis engulfing the republican leadership, Mr McCartney’s five sisters and his fiancée, Bridgeen Hagans, are heading to the United States this week on the next stage of their campaign to force the father-of-two’s killers into court. Alongside meetings with the president, George Bush, and Senator Edward Kennedy, private talks have been set up with Senator Hillary Clinton. And Sinn Fein’s discomfort only intensified last night after the party disclosed that a second Sinn Fein election candidate was in the Belfast pub where Mr McCartney was attacked. Clearly rattled by the intensity of the crisis engulfing Sinn Fein, Mr McGuinness said: "The McCartneys need to be very careful. To step over that line into the world of party politics can do a huge disservice to their campaign. ... > The main thing wrong with the British Government and illegal Protestant paramilitaries is that they didn't kill Gerry Adams and McGuinness [and a lot more besides]. I note that you give Catholics a capital C and Protestants a lower case p. <The British government, plus the illegal protestant armies killing Irish Catholics are a problem too. > I far prefer judicial executions, but sometimes, when in a state of war, such luxuries are unavailable, which results in innocent bystanders being caught up in the carnage. Now it's Irish Catholics killing Irish Catholics - I can see that the IRA are going to have to get real jobs. They are obviously averse to work, preferring robbery and murder and begging from stupid rich Americans. I wonder how much money Gerry Adams will get on his latest trip. Good for King George II telling him to get lost [not to mention Kennedy and others]. You make it sound like British Government genocide against Irish Catholics, which of course is silly. It wasn't Irish Catholics who were being killed, it was IRA terrorists. No doubt there were innocent victims too, [for example a family of Kiwis in the Tower of London who the IRA bombed and maimed]. I'm not interested in a century ago, potato famines and the like. Nor even 60 years ago when Ireland was inclined to think Adolf versus the evil British wasn't all a bad idea. Nor even 30 years ago, though of course criminals should always be caught and punished if possible, with no statute of limitations for them to hide behind. Mqurice PS: Several years ago I decided to simply ignore anything to do with Gerry Adams, IRA and their evil ilk. They are a trivial blot on the landscape of humanity of little consequence to the rest of us. One day they'll be dead and other people will wonder what was wrong with them. Silly me, I started dabbling again. I shall perhaps reinstate my contemptuous no comment/no read/simply ignore policy.
