There have been several major waves of Palestinians into Lebanon.... "Let's face it, Democracy is messy. We don't know what will happen in Lebanon, or Iraq, or Syria, or Egypt. That doesn't mean that we should discourage democratic movements in the region - or the removal of Syrians from Lebanon.... We tried the route of encouraging "stability" in the Middle East. The reason that Saddam (a man responsible for starting a war that killed over a million people) wasn't removed in 1991, was that America's allies wanted to keep a "stable" government in Iraq." I agree completely. To abandon what is TRULY in our long-term national interests (promotion of human rights, Democracy, just legal systems and rule-of-law, free market economies) simply for narrow and short-term TACTICAL considerations is nearly always a poor choice.
