Having seen photos of the carved up carcasses of the victims (resembling field-dressed deer) I regrettably know more than I'd like about the facts of the case. But still, one has to wonder what thing in Dahmer's head allowed him to see people as objects to play with. His dad seemed to be devastated by this - I know I would be if he was my son. One would have to wonder if they did something, or could have prevented it in some way.

We watch our kids grow and we see things we don't like or that worry us. If they are secretive, we may not know. For me, I guess because I'm relatively sensitive, I see a big miasma of pain spreading from the whole scene. Victims and family are all in a cloud and it doesn't radiate from Dahmer like light from a projector lamp. I know in some societies, people like him would have had an outlet as executioner or torturer for the king. Thankfully, these professions are gone (except for enemy non-combatants held by some countries), but the genetic traits for those who would fall into such work still are in the gene pool. It makes me sick.
