Deliberate some more then, because violating human rights does not prevent any attack...it probably improves the odds for one though.

Our own intelligence people are saying that the invasion into Iraq created more terrorists, and increased the chances of attacks.

On top of that Iraq was not wanting to threaten the US. Saddam was wanting to improve relations with the US. That should have been the opening which the US could have leveraged into a peaceful coup.

But now we are down the road of pre-emptive war...and it's a long road indeed. Meanwhile Al Qaeda has improved it's recruitment, and is plotting for another attack someday. We should have pursued the actual attackers...not the bait and switch Iraq conflict.

I said on the night of 9/11/01 that we would lose certain rights, and it would probably be necessary to do so in an open society to prevent future attacks.

Interesting, because on the night of 9-11 I was thinking how some will try to take away rights and how we the people would have to be vigilant to maintain the rights of the people. And that if certain people were successful in limiting our rights, then the attackers will have achieved their goal. I thought how important it would be to not panic, to remain calm and centered. To gather our allies, assess our damage, aid the wounded and the survivors, to come together to fight this enemy.

Many people were coming together. Our allies were at our side. Even the muslim world had expressed outrage. We knew what we had to do.

Then I watched this president squander all that good will and the renewed purpose of the world to fight terror, and turn and twist it into a war in Iraq. I have been dumbfounded at his actions and words. Instead of feeling united with my brothers around the world and in my nation, I feel betrayed and cheated.

Then we are bombing innocents in retribution for 9-11 in a country with no connection to the perpetrators of 9-11, and to do this we turn away from the work of capturing bin Laden and his men. Not only am I amazed, I'm angered by it and saddened by it.

Then we watch the formation of Homeland Security whose biggest accomplishment is the development of the terror alert system. This administration already said that the terrorists won't put us on notice...so that whole color code crap is useless, except to stir fear in the minds of Americans tuned to Fox News with the terror alert streaming across the bottom of the screen while talking heads justify the attacks in Iraq.

The patriot act was passed...and most legislators voted for it with out reading it. To look for clues about who is limiting our freedoms...look to see who authored the patriot act. John Ashcroft.

This nation could have been a phoenix rising from the ashes of 9-11, stronger of purpose for freedom and democracy, working with our allies to combat terror. Instead that momentum was diverted to Iraq, where we are served up with antics and lies such as "bring it on" and "mission accomplished".
