End of the Line: The Failure of Amtrak Reform and the Future of America's Passenger Trains
by Joseph Vranich
(AEI Press, 204 pages, $25)

Its a rolling disaster only because every Congress yahoo from podunk America insists on train service even when there are no passengers.

In fact, service on Amtrak is excellent. The train people work hard to make the trip enjoyable. The trains have a reasonably good on time record. Amtrak has done an amazing job in spite of all the limitations placed on it by Congress and money.

A civilization is judged not just by its bombs. Its too bad the current trailer trash who are in Congress have no concept of what that means. Amtrak, ANWR, Terri Schiavo, pork........a pox on all their houses.
