I don't know if you are missing the point on purpose. If you asked most (non-scholarly) Christians who rules Hell, they wouldn't say Jesus or God, they'd say Satan. Besides, what was the very next sentence? <My intelligent God wouldn't allow a deceiver, rebel and apostate to rule of a dominion which He created because God's in charge in everything including the punishments in Hell. > I'm not really interested in hashing out the details of the administration of Hell: I have not one iota of data to suggest that such a place even exists.

So, what is the role of Satan? God created an agent, which rather than destroy it when it went wrong and led a failed rebellion, unleashed it upon inferior Earthly mortals to tempt them? Hooey, unless God allows that, in which case, it isn't rational or loving.

Buddhism is very speculative (I'm not one, BTW), but at least it makes sense. Life is sad. Everyone you ever know will die and we spend a lot of time ignoring that. Buddhism tries to make sense of that while remaining logical and consistent. Karma is like a bank balance. We are purportedly on a spiral staircase to Enlightenment. Buddha is there to show us it is possible to get to the top - he made it but came back to show others the way. Tibetans say it has happened more than once and the Dlai Lama is evidence. Not sure I buy that he's Buddha, but Tensin Gyatso's still a really neat man.
