Cocky attitude that will not do you much good. Your number one on the list. 2) "has no abortion laws whatsoever" Creepy. So you can kill up to the day of birth and it doesn't matter if the girl is 10? Gross. You can have that "freedom". I suppose you are more free to kill than we are. If so, we are both too free in that regard. Why not kill them after they are born too? Maybe that is your next step in "freedom". Note - I'm hoping your proud number 2 is at least partially in error. 3) "in many provinces, recognizes and fully accepts gay marriage as a legal institution, even for immigration purposes" Not all provinces? Hate to think about how you view those %$^*&^'s in those provinces. I personally have no problem with gays or being gay. But don't understand why they (or anyone) would view two gay people being in love as the same as the fundamental components of creating a family. Why not give benfits to two roomates? Guys and gals can both make it on their own imo. Why can't they once they fall in love? As a result of changeing the definition of marriage a lot of people will do it just to get the benefits. I don't view it as being prejudiced to think that marriage is a permenent union of a man and a woman that forms the basis for propogating the species in a civilized world. 4) "No Canadian goes without health care" And the trade off is we have better health care. Note that giving someone something is not really what freedom is. It may be a nice benefit, but it is not freedom. 5) "has no death penalty" Looks like you forgot about number 2! But with the adult one we have in America I could live with or without it. In principal it is ok. But it costs waaaaaaayyyyyy too much by the time it is done, and sometimes they get it wrong. I guess this does make your country more free to violently hurt someone though. 7) "has a general maternity leave of one year off for mothers, at 80 percent of their salary" This is called socialism, not freedom. Again, nice benefit. But its not freedom. Just a reason you like living there better. I actually like the idea of the wife not working (at an outside job) until the little tykes are in school. Probably a barbaric thought to you. Some nice reasons to live there if that is your definition of freedom. You forgot about the awesome scenery. Pender harbor is where I got engaged, and checked out Queen Victoria inlet. Very cool. Too bad you guys have devleloped such a hatred of the U.S. I had a great time there, and hope the climate will change at some point to where we are not viewed as evil. Overall I like the more competitive nature of the U.S. It's easy to get along here if you don't need expensive stuff, and you can kick but if you are a workaholic. I think the competitiveness of the place adds more to the difference in overall violence. And in this environment I am glad that we do allow citizens to protect themselves with handguns. Regardless of what some hapless dupe may do with their gun, I would rather have one if I am on the wrong end of one of those 900,000+ violent criminal acts. You can be ghandi.
