I have a question: How is naked shorting of a security (a contract to produce the security at a later date) any different than me entering into a contract with you to provide a future service or product? In either case, I'm selling you something that I don't currently own and that may not even exist to be delivered at a future date. The burden is on me to either deliver on the commitment or face the consequences for failing to deliver. It seems to me to be a simple case of free enterprise and contract law.
