The defenders of naked shorting try to make it look like those of us posting are against all shorting. I'm all for making it easier for retail investors to short.

The issue of naked shorting is largely one that gives big money players an extra advantage. Hedge funds, market makers, toxic financers, crooked management, all find ways to scam the market and avoid the rules. You and I can't do it even if we wanted to do it.

But, if you try to take away this "edge," you see the hoards of attack dogs saying, "there is no problem, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

Oh... I missed the obvious difference in that the shorted shared are supposed to be borrowed. Duh! Thanks to everyone for the quick responses.
