You are right. When we examine our own (and our friends')spending, we find that many people are living on financial red line, and a few are living well within their means. Those with discipline outperform those who spend money impulsively. Countries are no different.

The President's proposal forces everyone to save for their own retirement. The only ones missed are those who do not earn wages, the idle rich and the chronically unemployed poor. There will always be some form of safety net for the people who did not have the opportunity to be employed. Making it equal in outcome to those who struggled and worked hard would be offensive to those who earned their way to a better result.
