The SU collapsed from within, not from invading armies. And there was very little instability, relative to what we (IMO) over the next 20-30 years or more in the Middle East.

For every action there is a reaction. The Middle East is a muddle of competing religious, tribal and economic interests, with huge sums of money at stake. My opinion is that we are in the first inning of what will become a nasty and violent period... with the obvious cost to the world economy. And no guarantee that in the end it will be better for the people of the ME.
