Once we invaded, patriotism carried the numbers above 50% -- but prior to the invasion, Americans supported the war only if it was via a UN effort - just stick to the facts Nadine and skip the spin. The lack of support without UN involvement forced Bush to make a fake go through the UN, complete with phony dire warnings of mushroom clouds etc. -- and this manipulation was enough to carry the day, at least into the early days of the invasion before the hundreds of body bags started to flow back to the US.
