Why would you think there is a racial component?

I see no evidence that race enters into it in any way, shape or form.

Two points - the first is I don't understand why the Peterson case was on national news at all. It was just a missing person and domestic homicide case, right? I don't have the numbers, but something tells me missing person cases that tunr into homicides are relatively common in the US (more than one per year). It was basically a run of the mill murder case (right?). Why are the Petersons on the US news so often? I even would get some coverage on them over here in the ME, and have never understood why this murder case was on international or national news. Do you know?

The Peterson may be better news than the non-local weather, but that's not saying much.

The racial component is a second point, and that is that this type of case that grabs national media attention (but on the surface has nothing really distinguishing about it) seems to only happen to white people. I can't recall ANYTHING close to this level of coverage for a minority couple homicide case in the US. My hunch is if they were Hispanic, Asian or black that there is no way the networks would give them the coverage. No evidence to back it up, but it's a hunch of mine.

It reminds me of the case from a few years ago where the little girl of the couple vanished, and for a while they suspected the couple, but the couple was never prosecuted. The were in Denver or Colorado or somewhere around there - can't recall the name of the family, but it also was (for some reason completely unknown to me) on national news very, very often. Again, totally white middle class family.
