Amy,

From what this motorhead reads, GM makes little or NO money off it's cars, what bucks it does make in the wheels sector is off it's trucks and large SUV's. Until very recently, the Japanese did not have offerings in the large truck catagory, although that is now changing with the Nissan Titan and large Toyota trucks. Even Honda is getting into the smaller truck game with it's Ridgeline. GM hired a pretty good car guy name Bob Lutz some time ago, but it takes a good bit of time to introduce new models. They really are caught between a rock and a hard place, especially when they have to face a very cash rich Toyota... Still, no excuse for not even trying to attack the Japanese in the quality sedan market. GM continues it's decades long market share loss, and under the current CEO, Rick Wagoner, the stock has dropped from within hailing distance of $90/share to the pathetic levels of today. Of course, management said yesterday that the board has 'full confidence' in them. Too bad that isn't the case with the marketplace, which is what really counts.

PS - The new Corvette is a great performance value for the dollar, but it's a niche car and only a small shining light for the company...
