It depends on what is causing it. Muscle weakness and spasms is commonly associated with it. There are probably others, electrolyte imbalance isn't one of my areas of interest. My grandmother had a problem with this and moved in with my parents as a result. She became incoherent and dazed.

Sweating a lot, drinking too much water, vomiting, diarrhea can all cause an imbalance. EB is why drinking too much water can be deadly and ditto for diarrhea in babies. Apparently, it can also be a problem in cancer patients.
