I hadn't thought of that, but dogs do need socialization to be good pets whether that be before hand or not. A movie clip that always cracked me up was the first Jurassic Park movie where the scientist and the kids were in the tree and a brontosaurus comes up. The girl asks, "Can I pet him?" and then the scientist says, "Sure, he's a vegetarian."

I'm sorry, but that is just totally untrue. There is a huge rescue effort for former racing greyhounds in my town, because there is a racing track here (thank goodness it is about to go out of business). I have had extensive conversations with the owners of many of these dogs while we all hang out at the dog park, and my dogs play with these dogs, and I have had ample opportunities to observe their behavior. They are wonderful dogs, mellow and very happy, and make great (and grateful) pets.

No former racer is a "sweet" greyhound.

Are you sure about that, Bill? I didn't engage the discussion here about dogs because I've never had one and am not very knowledgeable, but I have thought about possibly having a dog at some point in my life and pretty much settled on a rescued greyhound as the most suitable breed for me based on my research. I understood that they were sweet couch potatoes.
