There is a dearth of pragmatism in American politics today. For one, being pragmatic risks being labeled as not having a "moral compass", as if blinding following ideology into spiked pits is a virtue...

The true conservatives are the ones we need to wake up to get a consensus to right the ship.

Maybe the few of national import that remain are too old to care. Some of them spoke out against Bush during the election but most of them were in their 70s or 80s.
