There IS something wrong with it if you have a constitution which mentions separation of church and state. If you want to live somewhere without a pesky constitution like that, then of course, you can be as dominating as you want to be.

You can dominate the aisles of Target at Christmas and Easter, you can have Santa at the mall, but you cannot dominate the public spaces of our country where you give governmental imprimatur to your religion. I'm fairly glad we have a constitution that protects us from such coersion- because some Christians don't appear to be the kind of people who are very good at putting the breaks on themselves. Other Christians are live and let live- but as with any group of people, it's the bullies you need the constitution to control.

Rome was a fascist military empire. That's not the standard I want. We should be able to be ourselves no matter where our plane lands. Good judgment and respect for tradition goes a long way, though, and Americans tend to be really ignorant. The Ugly Americans on our cruise ship insisted on wearing gawdy cocktail rings despite warnings that it was considered rude on shore. C'est la vie, indeed. It will take a while. If Americans want to be respected abroad, then they will have to have respect abroad.

For a while, it will seem one way.
