There are sometimes so many levels of meaning possible to people if they intentionally invoke the subtleness of the language. I would not wish you to think you were the butt of any joke. I think my response to you was more prophylactic than anything else. "I was attempting to display indifference" Mildred, in "Of Human Bondage" would be the appropriate role model to emulate... "The last thing I want is to get on your bad side" I don't know that I have one--just strong opinions and a commitment to defend my right to those opinions.
